Gabbers Rock the Run

What’s your motivation for running a 5K?

Still running off those chocolate bunnies from Easter? Looking for an excuse to buy a new pair of running shoes? Committed to benefiting a worthy cause? At Gab, we’re interested in all of the above. Lucky for us, there’s Rock the Run.

Rock the Run, hosted by Life Time Athletic Boca Raton and sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, isn’t your typical “run”-of-the-mill 5K. At each 1/2 marker, acoustic musicians will be jamming from the sidelines, keeping you pumped ‘till the finish line! Get a group of friends together to “walk the run,” or test your endurance solo up the shaded race course, which begins at the entrance of the Arvida Park of Commerce Course on Yamato Road.

Get ready: The race starts at 8am on Saturday, May 1.

Did we mention it’s being hosted by the area’s largest (and most exclusive) health resort, with 70,000 square feet of fitness bliss including indoor and outdoor pools, their gourmet LifeCafe, basketball and squash courts, an inventive range of fitness classes, and the serene LifeSpa?

A portion of the proceeds from Rock the Run will benefit the Life Time Fitness Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation supporting healthy kids and healthy communities, and The Children’s Place at Home Safe in Boca Raton, FL.

In addition to bringing a smile to the faces of children and families in need, there is an extra bonus at the end of the finish line. After the race, LifeSpa is offering one-hour Deep Tissue Massages for only $64 (regularly $85), and $75 Cabana Massages (regularly $90) for all pre-registered runners!

It’s only 3.1 miles to a healthier you and a happier community!

Think you can’t run a marathon? You can. Some tips for first-timers:

If you think your current sneakers have treaded more than 300 miles, it’s time to buy a new pair. As if we needed another excuse to go shopping…

Fuel your engine with a light high-carb meal, like oatmeal with a banana, one to three hours prior to the start of the race.

Enjoy it! Don't put pressure on yourself to achieve a super fast time for your first race. Your goals should be to finish the race, and, of course, have a blast doing it.

See you at the finish line!

We're Filling In the Blanks

While doing some spring cleaning, Gab came across snapshots from our fab February events!

Check out the below events people are still talking about.

Plus, we'll keep you posted on all upcoming trends and Gab events. Stay tuned for Rock the Run and "Celebration of Style" Intermix shopping event details...

Trendspotting for Super Bowl XLIV

You don’t have to be a football fanatic to love the Super Bowl. Between the raucous parties, unabashedly digging in to mayo-based dips, and companies doling out millions of dollars for a 30-second commercial spot (what recession?), there’s a little something for everyone.

This year, South Florida got a double dip of football with the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl back-to-back, both hosted in our party-central backyard. This is the record-breaking 10th time Miami has hosted the Super Bowl, which, if you ask us, is the ideal location for wild Super Bowl parties.

We at The Gab Group have some predictions regarding what’s going to go down this Sunday…and we’re not talking about the final score.

Game day is going gourmet. Expect spins on classic sliders, or exotic sauces and salsas to complement go-to classics. Deborah Hartz Seeley, Food Editor for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, recommends Polynesian Wings, chicken wings cooked up with tropical flair, including crushed pineapple, brown sugar, ginger root, and garlic. Eat up to rep your team – shrimp po’ boys scream “Go Saints!”, while deep-fried pork tenderloin sandwiches show your Colts love.

When you’re out an about on game day, don’t forget your camera. South Florida is already celeb-central, but with the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl mere days apart, expect even more big names. Everyone who’s anyone will be in town, so keep an eye out.

Football will meet fashion. No one wants to schlep around in a jersey in South Florida’s sexiest city, especially when you never know who you’ll run into.

We’ll be at Il Bacio Restaurant & Lounge, otherwise known as Atlantic Ave’s Super Bowl headquarters, for The Big Game. Playmate Leticia Cline and Maxim Magazine Hometown Hottie Tami Donaldson will host as we sit in the lap of luxury, watching the game on 100-inch screens and chowing down on Il Bacio’s gourmet buffet.

Editor's note 4/16/10: Everyone had a great time at Il Bacio's Super Bowl viewing party! Check out our photos from the event...
